About Us
The Transform Uzhgorod Alliance came was an expansion of an earlier Transform Radvanka Alliance. Radvanka was a region within Uzhgorod that contained three Roma camps. International Teams created this alliance with four local churches (three of which were Roma churches). The Alliance was formed in 2014 and together accomplished much within the three Roma camps from picking up trash, repairing roads to allow ambulance access, providing clean drinking water to two of the camps, starting a food supplement program for needy pensioners, installing winter windows in the local Roma school, and providing water to the polyclinic that served the 12,000 inhabitants of Radvanka. In addition we began training Roma believers in sharing their faith. During those two years the three Roma churches reported they had doubled in attendance.
The local team from International Teams decided to broaden the scope of the Alliance to focus on the whole city. The first Transform Uzhgorod Alliance meeting was held in November 2016. It has already grown to eight local churches, ten Ukrainian Christian ministries, and six international mission agencies.
Our vision is to transform the city of Uzhgorod by the power of God.
Our mission is to bring people together to help the oppressed.
Our passion is that all people are of value and should have access to food, and forgiveness.
Currently the Alliance plans its projects through five working groups. The first four are focused on specific people groups – Roma, Orphans, University Students, and Victims of War. The fifth group exists to develop a strategy so that everyone in the city will hear the Gospel by 2020.
Doug Landro, of International Teams, is the chairman of the Alliance. He has lived in Ukraine for twenty years, ten of which have been in Uzhgorod. He coaches churches in youth ministry and founded International Teams Ukraine which has trained and mobilized over one hundred Ukrainian missionaries serving in sixteen countries.
Volodymyr Sergachov coordinates the Roma working group.
