Radvanka Community Playground and Sports Field
Summary
The Transform Uzhhorod Alliance requests land from the City of Uzhhorod for the purpose of providing a safe playground and sports field for the children of Radvanka region. The Alliance will provide financing for the development of the playground and sports field.
Organization Information
The Transform Uzhhorod Alliance consists of fifteen (15) churches and twenty-two (22) organizations that have come together to help the oppressed in our city of Uzhhorod, Ukraine. Our passion is that no one is invisible, and everyone has access to health, freedom, and forgiveness. We have two active Project Groups that focus on the needs of the Rroma communities and children at risk.
The Alliance is currently in the process of official registration, and so for the moment we officially work through the registration of our members. For the purpose of this project, we are being represented by our Alliance member Ruka Dopomogy.
The Alliance has been involved in several projects over the years including cleaning up the trash, providing clean drinking water stations, and temporary repair of roads within the Radvanka Rroma Camps. We provide food supplements for Rroma pensioners and career training for Rroma young people. One of our first projects several years ago was cleaning the basement of the apartment complex at Uzhans’ka 85 of the accumulation of sewage and replacing the external pipe systems which had ruptured. Most recently we provided a portable x-ray machine for Uzhhorodsʹka Misʹka Dytyacha Poliklinika, Filial “Radvanka”. In addition to this project, the Alliance continues its work in repairing city roads in the Rroma camps, developing a Rroma pre-school, and building a child tutoring center for Rroma children in Rativtsi.
The Alliance has also been active in assisting children at risk. We organize volunteers to hold abandoned babies in Uzhhorod Children’s Hospital on a daily basis, and teams that visit orphans in Svalyava and Chynadiiovo. We are actively involved in Ukraine Without Orphans project working with the city, regional and national leaders in developing a foster-care system in Ukraine. And we are working in partnership with other agencies and foundations in assisting the Zakarpattia Regional government in providing shelter for victims of domestic abuse.
Need for Project
There is no safe area for the children living along Uzhans’ka and Hranitna Streets in the Radvanka region to play. Each year children are injured, sometimes fatally, as they primarily play in the streets. By providing a safe playground and sports field we can eliminate the risk of these children at play.
Plan
We are requesting the city to allocate the land as denoted on the enclosed map for the purpose of providing this playground and sports field. The city would continue to maintain ownership of the land. The Alliance would then clear the land of foliage and level the property. We would purchase some playground equipment and delineate a football field. The city will provide a dumpster and funds for garbage pickup.
Community Impact
The children in Radvanka would have a safe place to play. In addition, Alliance members could organize children and youth activities in the park to mentor the children of Radvanka.
Budget
A concise budget for this project has not yet been determined as we are waiting on the city to allocate the land. But we estimate it will cost around $5000 to clear and prepare the land for the playground and an additional $10,000 – $15,000 for playground equipment. Alliance members will take full responsibility for raising these funds.
